Controls Technologist
Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, this production/shop-floor focused role requires the Controls Technologist to support automated production in a fast paced high volume manufacturing environment.
Key responsibilities include:
Providing systems support on all automated systems, including, but not limited to:
· PLC controls, especially but not limited to Allen Bradley,Siemens
· E-batch system
· RF network, barcode scanning and labelling applications
· Robot systems
· Vision systems
· SCADA systems
· Recording systems
· Labelling and weighing systems
· All associated networks for the above,ie Device Network,Ethernet,Profibus etc
· All automated shop-floor systems
· All production related computers, networks and peripheral equipment.
· Research, analyse, document, recreate and resolve technical issues.
· Maintain proficiency by staying current on computer technology, computer products and applications, RF technology and wireless technology.
· Design and implement machine and equipment improvements on existing equipment.
· Assist maintenance personnel to troubleshoot and problem solve the day-to-day technical production issues.
· Maintain and upgrade existing production programme and develop programmes for new equipment. Build upon and improve existing process design to optimize process while conforming to standard operating procedures and current good manufacturing practice.
· Drive process improvement through the utilisation of leading edge technology.
· Manage spares inventory for automation group.
· Participate in the mechanical and electrical maintenance of processes and equipment when required.
· Train and develop the skills of the wider maintenance group to meet current and future requirements.
· Work under limited direct supervision on support of the automation system.
· Manage root cause determination & implement corrective actions where necessary.
· Management of and liasing with automation vendors and electrical/mechanical/controls contractors.
· Support prioritization of tasks.
· Develop and maintain detailed control system and troubleshooting documentation.
· Project manage automation projects & control system modifications, ensuring that verification & validation procedures are implemented.
· Develop and review project specification and validation documents in line with the GAMP project life cycle
· Liase with Engineering and maintenance in the efficient and effective handover of projects and automation installations to ensure all specifications are achieved.
· Facilitate the transfer of automation programmes to production in a timely manner.
· The role will involve close liaison with other site departments and management to ensure day-to-day operational and project support is provided. This includes working with Engineering, Maintenance, End-users, QA, Validations and all other stakeholders to develop and review documents that meet user requirements and the functional requirements of the process descriptions.
· Implementation of system security, maintenance and training as required.
· Change control and configuration in compliance with site and regulatory standards including GAMP 4 and 21CFRPart11.
· Participate in the initial development of Automation solutions in order to develop and implement automation solutions to satisfy customer and manufacturing requirements. Provide input on equipment installation, total preventative maintenance, spare parts and troubleshooting.
· Providing technical input to upgrades, process improvements and projects related to process control systems and equipment.
· Preparation and reviewing of URS,FDS,IQ,OQ,PQ and other Computer Systems Validation Documentation
· Develop and implement processes and procedures, to ensure current and future equipment and practices are compliant with current standards.
Skills/Attributes:
•Have a good Instrumentation and Process Controls background with experience in PLC programming especially but not limited to Allen Bradley.
•Be mechanically experienced and have a strong understanding of pnuematics, production processes and mechanics.
•Have PC, software and networking experience.
•Have experience in Ultrasonic Welding.
Systematic troubleshooting/problem solving skills.
•Good communication skills.
•Ability to work well in a team environment
•Ability to provide innovative solutions to complex technical problems.
•Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a high-pressure environment.
•An understanding of Validation procedures and methodologies.
•High level of safe working practices and awareness.
•This position may involve shift work. The suitable candidate should be willing to work flexible shift arrangements.
Qualifications/Experience:
•The successful candidate will possess a third level qualification in computer systems, electronics or control systems engineering while also possessing suitable qualifications in Mechanical/Electrical maintenance such as Mechatronics.
•Ideally He/She will have 2/3 years experience in the maintenance environment of a high volume manufacturing facility.
•He/She will have knowledge of GMP/GAMP systems.
•He/She will be a self-starter, motivated achiever, interested in systems and self-development
