Ploerdut is a pretty village in central Brittany with butcher, baker, restaurant, newsagent, bars, creperie, petrol station, garage, farm shop, chemist, hairdresser, doctor, post office etc. Some English residents but mostly French; a very friendly place. It has been easy to integrate into the community. There is an excellent primary school here & a brand new creche has just opened for babies & toddlers. The village is situated just off the D1 7km west of Guemene-sur Scorff, midway between the larger towns of Pontivy & Gourin.

The house is a 19thC Maison de Maitre; 14 metres long & 6 metres deep; all the rooms running from front to back with windows at both ends so full of light & air. Outside traditional lime & sand render & pointing.
Being organic in the garden means we are organic in the house too. All the decorating has been done using lime & pigments, linseed & turpentine, best quality green insulation etc.

It is a large & beautiful old Maison de Maitre which we have set out to restore respectfully rather than impose modernity upon.
We have restored the original chestnut floorboards, partition walls & huge tree sized beams throughout the house. There is a garage incorporated within the property. The central heating radiators are the curly cast iron ones. Mains drainage. Broadband.

Downstairs a central hallway with lovely chestnut staircase. A big farmhouse kitchen with original built in stone sink, a belfast sink, range cooker, marble worktops, butchers block , working Breton stone fireplace. Very pretty & also great for cooking in. A big living room with Godin wood burning stove.

First floor 2 big bedrooms; one subdivided. We use the front section as an office. Bathroom with white suite. Also above the garage a self contained studio flat with bed/living room, bathroom, kitchenette. Access via external staircase from garden as well as through house.
Second floor has been recently converted. There is a large central hallway with a dormer window, big enough for dining. There are two large bedrooms, each having 2 new double glazed velux windows, exposed A frames, top quality en-suite bathrooms. The first has a top of the range glass basin & power shower. The second en-suite has a ‘belfast’ type sink & a Jacuzzi bath. This room has another room leading off it with a dormer window.

The garden is 820 square metres, south west facing and mainly walled. I wanted to create something beautiful, full of scent & colour but at the same time easy to maintain. Improving the soil & the wonderful climate here have created an environment where both wild & cultivated flowers seed everywhere & it has become a little paradise. Wildflower meadow, fruit trees; apple, pear, cherry, peach, almond, gooseberry, blackberry, raspberry, strawberries, asparagus, potager vegetable garden, propagation area, wildlife & goldfish ponds, chicken run, lots of scented flowers, log shed, dining area, swing seat, hammock in the trees. The garden has a well too, perfect for watering.

We also have a small cottage for sale down the road at 36,000€. It has a 36sq. metre room downstairs with original fireplace & under stairs loo. Attic room with dormer above. Long back garden. It has good roof & walls but needs internal renovation. Would make ideal gite or long term let.
