Technical Sourcing Specialist
Job Purpose:
Provide cross-commodity sourcing leadership for New Product Development teams, Technology group, and Research group. Represent strategic sourcing as a focal point on these teams for new product introductions and product transfers. Responsible to ensure source selection is concurrent with MDT long term objectives to support cost and cycle time. Coordinate the transfer of program information and responsibilities to commodity teams and/or manufacturing location such that they are effective in meeting program goals. Responsible to meet operational targets and core team dates. May also lead continuous improvement in the area of concurrent engineering with suppliers to shorten product development time, improve product quality, assess and leverage technology, and achieve cost targets. Ensure supplier set-up is completed and inventory positions in place for seamless transition to production buyer. Ensure new suppliers are assessed and set up with MDT supplier management systems.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Provide sourcing/supply chain management leadership for launch of new products and technologies. Serve as Program Manager in assuring that program-related information and responsibilities are effectively communicated and documented to ensure execution by the appropriate Materials personnel. Champion supply-chain initiatives to ensure optimization of Cycle/Response Time, Total Cost, Quality Assurance and Technology leverage. Lead continuous improvement in the area of concurrent engineering with suppliers to shorten product development time, improve product quality, develop supplier process capability, assess and leverage appropriate technology, and achieve cost targets. Develop, document and implement a component-by-component Sourcing Strategy for new product programs to reach quality, time-to-market, technology and cost goals. Coordinate the timely acquisition of tooling, as well as prototype and pre-production components. Develop strong partnering relationships with the Engineering, Technology, and R&D community, as well as with the commodity teams, manufacturing facilities, and management.
Qualifications & Experience:
MINIMUM REQUIRED: Bachelors Degree. 8+ years experience. Ability to travel 25% of the time. Strong leadership skills. Able to Lead and provide directions to others. Strong time management, organizational, written and verbal communication skills. Strong PC and application skills. Solid understanding of new product development and introduction processes. Solid understanding of manufacturing and fabrication technologies. Understanding of supplier process capability tools and concepts. Influence skills to achieve results across a matrixed organization. Cross functional team leadership experience. Project management skills.
PREFERRED: Bachelors Degree in Engineering or Science, Master of Business Administration. 8+ years experience.
