Senior Speech and Language Therapist

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Speech and Language Therapist to work in the area of intellectual disability. This organisation provides residential and day services for adults and children with intellectual and learning disabilities and is part of a much wider organisation which provides services all over the country. This would be an ideal position for a professional who has strong interest in this area and would like to grow their career within a large organisation.

Responsibilities:
•To carry out assigned duties of responsibility and manage delegated aspects of service delivery in consultation with the head of department.
•Provision of statistics and an annual report to the service delivered.
•To provide a service which is in line with current and future speech and language therapy policies and procedures as defined by the professional body.
•Assessment and diagnosis of communication disorders and the planning and implementation of appropriate therapy.
•Appropriate and timely liaison with students, parents, education staff and other professionals involved in service provision.
•Networking with relevant agencies involved in service provision.
•Evaluation of intervention.
•Maintenance of objective, accurate written records.
•Facilitate both staff / parent training programmes where appropriate.
•To provide relevant information regarding the service on a regular basis.
•To prepare and present reports.
•Active involvement in carrying out a needs assessment in an effort to identify speech and language therapy needs of children with mild intellectual disability.
•Supervision of basic grade therapists and students as directed.

Requirements:
•B.Sc. in Clinical Speech and Language or equivalent as recognised by I.A.S.L.T. and the Department of Health & Children.
•Candidates who obtained their qualifications outside the Republic of Ireland must arrange to have their qualifications validated by the Irish Association of Speech and Language Therapists.
•Ideally 3 years post graduate experience.
•Experience with Intellectual and Learning Disabilities would be an advantage.
