LOS TRES AMIGOS – MEXICAN TRIO

In the 50's, the broad, sweeping vocals of Ranchera which evoked images of the rural life of the cowboy gave way to a more intimate form of music which is known simply as the age of The Conjuntos. Conjuntos are small, threeto four -piece bands without backup musicians except for an occasional upright bass player.

Conjunto songs are almost always exclusively love songs. While evoking images of nature such as the flower, the ocean, the mountains, these are all supporting images which are used to tell a story which can express ecstasy over a new love or sadness over a lost love. It is this characteristic which makes this the most emotional of all of the older Mexican musical genres.

However, our “Tres Amigos” Mexican Conjunto, while remaining firmly rooted in the traditions of three piece guitar/vocal combo, has reaches out to other music styles and incorporates a more rhythmic, lively style of Conjunto music and can creates a dance FIESTA where son is played and danced, as in Mexico, often from sundown until sunrise or longer. It is also a playful act where tradition becomes fluid: rules are made and broken as old forms are applied to new experience.

Tres Amigos is a unique ensemble of seasoned Mexican musicians working in Europe. It was formed in 1995 and has kept with the tradition of Mexican son true to its roots and old masters, and current and fresh at the same time.

They play Rancheras, Corridos, Boleros and Sons and their repertoire would include songs like Guadalajara, La Raspa, La Cucaracha, La Bamba, Ay Jalisco, Tequila, Cielito Lindo, El Rey, La Adelita, La Llorona, Las Mañanitas, and the list is long. They can also play all the classic Latin rhythms as Salsa, Son Cubano, Cumbia, Cha-Cha-Cha, Mambo, etc.
