Director of Manufacturing Engineering
Role Overview:
The over arching purpose of the role is to control and perfect existing processes and to introduce new
processes/ products in an environment of continuous improvement. The successful candidate will lead
the Athlone Manufacturing Engineering function within Global Manufacturing Engineering. Provide
leadership to team that provides expertise in product manufacturing development and commercialization,
oversees the interaction of all Athlone engineering functions related to product development and
commercial operations. Directs the ME function in DFM and Lean Manufacturing to meet the launch COGS
and post commercialization costs objectives.
Key responsibilities are process yield and capability, new process/product introduction, technology transfer, automation and six sigma method deployment
Key Responsibilities:
· Responsible for Manufacturing Engineering team Leaders & Engineers.
· Works with Marketing, Manufacturing and Quality Managers & Directors to deliver business objectives.
· Responsible for developing a world class-manufacturing group that is proficient in problem solving manufacturing issues using Six-Sigma tools.
· Serve as a technical leader in working with the GPCP and manufacturing teams to help solve exceptional and highly complex technical problems.
· Responsible for DFM throughout design process for both clinical trial devices as well as commercial device design.
· Develops and implements cost models for project development, manufacturing implementation, and COGs
· Develops and executes departmental budgets and capital spending.
· Leads or represents function in periodic business metric reviews.
· Initiates cross-functional partnerships to identify and resolve production/engineering issues.
· Prioritizes and drives execution of multiple complex department projects.
· Works with R&D and extended Operations and Marketing to develop project plans; including scheduling and budget requirements and resource needs assessments.
· Work with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance and effectiveness of Product Development Process.
· Monitors the cost and scheduling of projects to ensure that critical milestones are met.
· Responsible for the departmental basics including budgeting, hiring, day-to-day management, project resourcing, etc.
Position Requirements:
· BS in Engineering with a Masters degree a distinct advantage.
· Minimum 9 years of technical/professional experience.
· Minimum 5 years people management experience at a senior level in a manufacturing environment.
· Medical device and/or pharmaceutical industry experience preferred.
· Candidate must have solid understanding of lean manufacturing, business (operations) financial metrics, applied statistics and FDA requirements.
· Candidate must posses strong knowledge or background with polymer/plastic materials and extrusion processes.
· Proven track record in managing professionals in a fast paced environment.
· Excellent leadership, presentation and communication skills are a must.
Position will be based in our Athlone facility but will involve travel to US, EMEA & APAC. Travel to South America may also be required.
